Connecting to the AD server: Mac and PC
Once ONYENS have been given access rights over the class folders, to connect:
- INSTALL, RUN, and AUTHENTICATE via the CISCO AnyConnect VPN
Need to install Cisco Any Connect VPN: CISCO VPN: - Using ONE of the CUSTOM CLASS FOLDER NAMES:

CONNECTION HOW-TO:
On a MAC:
- Go to FINDER
- Command-K or top menu GOCONNECT TO SERVER
- IN the server address bar type
smb://ad.unc.edu/cas/comm/storage/CUSTOM FOLDER NAME/
- Replace ‘CUSTOM FOLDER NAME’ with your class folder name
- Examples: smb://ad.unc.edu/cas/comm/storage/MotionGraphics.BothSections
- smb://ad.unc.edu/cas/comm/storage/COMM130/
- smb://ad.unc.edu/cas/comm/storage/COMM150.NEWMEDIA/
- And so forth…
- HIT RETURN
- You should get the authentication window
- Then a prompt appears for USERNAME and PASSWORD
- You type in the USER space, ‘ad\YOURONYEN’. For example: ad\mrobin (NOTE the backslash)
- In the PASSWORD prompt you will type in your ONYEN PASSWORD
- HIT return
- You are ON!
On a PC:
- GoTo FILE EXPLORER
- On the left hand side you will see a ‘NETWORK’ icon
- RIGHT CLICK on NETWORK icon and select ‘Map Network Drive’
- A sub-window opens and in the ‘FOLDER:’ blank TYPE
- type: \\ad.unc.edu\cas\comm\storage\CUSTOM FOLDER NAME/
- Replace ‘CUSTOM FOLDER NAME’ with your class folder name
- Example: \\ad.unc.edu\cas\comm\storage\COMM431.AdvAUDIO\
- \\ad.unc.edu\cas\comm\storage\COMM130\
- \\ad.unc.edu\cas\comm\storage\COMM150.NEWMEDIA\
- And so forth…
- Hit ‘ FINISH’ in the lower right of the box
- Then a prompt appears for USERNAME and PASSWORD
- You type in the USER space, ‘ad\YOURONYEN’. For example: ad\mrobin
- In the PASSWORD prompt you will type in your ONYEN PASSWORD
- HIT return
- You are ON!
Faculty: We have to grant the students in your classes read/write
