Jenny Pape, MFA, serves as the Director of the Media Art Space and a Lecturer in Audio and Media Arts within the Communication Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Media Arts and joined Carolina after seven years as an Associate Professor of Practice in Audio Arts at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
Jenny is an award-winning songwriter, performing artist, and music producer. She has performed across the United States as a solo artist (Miss Jenny, Jenny Pape, Jenny Johnson) and as a bandleader (Jenny Johnson Band, Miss Jenny and The Howdy Boys). Her original music has been featured on PBS, NPR, Hulu, and in award-winning documentaries and radio broadcasts. She has shared the stage with Grammy Award–winning artist Kyle Tuttle and Grammy-nominated performers Lindsay Lou and Sarah Shook & The Disarmers.
Jenny’s production work has earned multiple accolades from the Broadcast Education Association’s International Festival of Media Arts. Her music exploring the cultural and historical identity of rural Southern Illinois is permanently archived in the Virtual Museum and Special Collections at Southern Illinois University’s Morris Library.

Media Technician, Ashleigh Ranson

Ashleigh Ranson serves as the Media Technician for the Media Art Space on Franklin St. She graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Summer of 2021, after completing an internship with Birns & Sawyer in Hollywood, CA, as part of the Hollywood Internship Program. She graduated with degrees in Biology and Communications, coming up through the same Media Production program that she now assists with the operation of. Prior to returning to the UNC Communications department, Ashleigh has worked as a Sports Media Broadcast Operator, and in the Sound Department on several episodes of The Uncommon Story docuseries.
