Once ONYENS have been given access rights over the class folders, to connect:

  1. INSTALL, RUN, and AUTHENTICATE via the CISCO AnyConnect VPN
    Need to install Cisco Any Connect VPN: CISCO VPN:
  2. Using ONE of the CUSTOM CLASS FOLDER NAMES:
    1. COMM130
    2. COMM150.NEWMEDIA
    3. COMM230
    4. COMM431.AdvAUDIO/
    5. COMM534.Narr
    6. COMM635.DocProd
    7. COMM638.GAMEDES
    8. COMM647
    9. COMM654.MotionGraphics
    10. COMM656
    11. COMM690.005.EnviroDoc

CONNECTION HOW-TO:

On a MAC:

  1. Go to FINDER
  2. Command-K or top menu GOCONNECT TO SERVER
  3. IN the server address bar type

smb://ad.unc.edu/cas/comm/storage/CUSTOM FOLDER NAME/

  1. Replace ‘CUSTOM FOLDER NAME’ with your class folder name
  2. Examples: smb://ad.unc.edu/cas/comm/storage/MotionGraphics.BothSections
    1.  smb://ad.unc.edu/cas/comm/storage/COMM130/
    2. smb://ad.unc.edu/cas/comm/storage/COMM150.NEWMEDIA/
    3. And so forth…
  3. HIT RETURN
  4. You should get the authentication window
  5. Then a prompt appears for USERNAME and PASSWORD
  6. You type in the USER space, ‘ad\YOURONYEN’. For example: ad\mrobin (NOTE the backslash)
  7. In the PASSWORD prompt you will type in your ONYEN PASSWORD
  8. HIT return
  9. You are ON!

On a PC:

  1. GoTo FILE EXPLORER
  2. On the left hand side you will see a ‘NETWORK’ icon
  3. RIGHT CLICK on NETWORK icon and select ‘Map Network Drive’
  4. A sub-window opens and in the ‘FOLDER:’ blank TYPE
    1. type:  \\ad.unc.edu\cas\comm\storage\CUSTOM FOLDER NAME/
    2. Replace ‘CUSTOM FOLDER NAME’ with your class folder name
    3. Example: \\ad.unc.edu\cas\comm\storage\COMM431.AdvAUDIO\
    4. \\ad.unc.edu\cas\comm\storage\COMM130\
    5. \\ad.unc.edu\cas\comm\storage\COMM150.NEWMEDIA\
    6. And so forth…
  5. Hit ‘ FINISH’ in the lower right of the box
  6. Then a prompt appears for USERNAME and PASSWORD
  7. You type in the USER space, ‘ad\YOURONYEN’. For example: ad\mrobin
  8. In the PASSWORD prompt you will type in your ONYEN PASSWORD
  9. HIT return
  10. You are ON!

 

 

Faculty: We have to grant the students in your classes read/write

Please send me: mrobin@unc.edu an email with

      1. your enrolled student’s ONYENS (attainable through SAKAI or CONNECTCAROLINA)
      2. The course number and secton number
  • I will get the students access rights to the appropriate folder
  • Assuming the OASIS Help desk populates the access rights correctly, each student and professor should have access –
